Step 3: Register with the State
Once you have your certification, complete your registration through the Iowa Medical Cannabidiol Registration Portal. You’ll upload your signed certification, proof of Iowa residency, and a government-issued photo ID, then pay the $100 annual registration fee (or $25 with qualifying financial documentation). After approval, the HHS will mail your Iowa Medical Cannabidiol Card, typically within 5–10 business days. Important Program Details
Iowa’s program allows for CBD products containing no more than 4.5 grams of THC every 90 days, unless a higher amount is approved by a physician due to medical necessity.
Only patients 18 years and older (or minors with a registered caregiver) are eligible.
Products include oral, topical, inhalable, and ingestible forms — smoking or raw flower is not permitted.
Cards are valid for one year and must be renewed with a valid certification.
