Your Path to Medical Cannabis in California
Step 1: Schedule Your Appointment
You can book an appointment with a California-licensed physician through HealifyNowMMJCards at a time that works best for you. Simply provide your basic medical information and choose your preferred appointment time. We offer telehealth consultations statewide, so you can complete your evaluation from the comfort of your home.
Step 2: Complete Your Evaluation
During your virtual or in-person consultation, the doctor will review your medical history and symptoms, discuss how medical cannabis may help your condition, and determine whether you qualify under California law (Proposition 215 & Senate Bill 420).
If you qualify, the physician will issue a Medical Cannabis Recommendation Letter—often referred to as your medical marijuana card—which you’ll receive digitally or by mail. Your recommendation allows you to legally purchase, possess, and use medical cannabis at state-licensed dispensaries.
Step 3: Register with the State
While a doctor’s recommendation allows you to legally purchase medical cannabis in California, obtaining a county-issued Medical Marijuana Identification Card (MMIC) offers extra advantages—including tax exemptions, easier verification at dispensaries, and enhanced legal protection. Each county manages the MMIC process independently, so check your local health department for details on how to apply.
Important
California does not require annual registration with a state agency unless you choose to obtain the optional county-issued MMIC.
The physician recommendation letter is valid for 12 months and can be renewed.
Both residents and certain temporary visitors may qualify for a recommendation from a California-licensed physician.
